| Being
a traditional Spanish village, life in Pego moves at a slower, more
leisurely pace. The tradition of the siesta, between 1.00pm - 4.00pm
is still honoured here. Located near the heart of the village you
are only a short walk from the church, shops, cafes and restaurants.
The nearest beach is only a 10-minute drive away. A short walk will
also take you to the village's 2 open-air swimming pools that are
open during the summer months. |

For the traveller requiring
a livelier pace Pego is in a favoured location as it is near to busier
resorts such as the port town of Denia with its water sports, Gandia,
Valencia and Benidorm; the city that never sleeps being a 45 minutes
drive away. Madrid is about 4 hours drive away. In our opinion, a
visit to the lovely seaside towns of Javea (Xavier) and Altea are
a must. |
| Driving along the the
national road (N332), many stops can be made. Here you'll find a plethora
of sandy beaches, restaurants, bars and shops, where real bargains
can be found. Most shops have a wonderful choice of all things ethnic,
from places as far away as Thailand, Africa and of course Spain. Again,
a visit to the La Casbah, a huge converted nightclub that now sells
wonderful objects for the home is an experience in itself. On leaving
the village you will come to the local safari park, El Vergel. |

Alternatively
a pleasant drive through the mountains and orange groves will take
you to surrounding villages where the locals will welcome you to try
a glass of sangria or some tapas. |
